I’m inching my way towards this, and just want to record an interesting link on the Absolute Beginners’ Forum for future reference.

Hi Philip; I only noticed your ubuntu blog today - how did I miss it for almost 6 months?
It’s a good read, I learned a thing or two.
I installed feisty fawn (released April 2007) last month. There’s no immediately impressive improvement - just little things I noticed day by day. For example previously when I plugged in the broadband it would take ubuntu some 3 to 5 minutes to detect the connection. Now it is a matter of seconds.
There were a couple of problems I hadn’t had with Dapper (released June 2006). Oh, realplayer works perfectly on the RTE website - it never worked before.
I believe a lot of extra work has gone into wireless/bluetooth etc under the hood, but I can’t comment on that as I don’t use them. I have a Logitech webcam however which never worked under Dapper, but worked in Feisty just by plugging it in! So that at least indicates that a bunch of new device drivers are in Feisty.
